Welcome to ‘100 Travel Stories’ – A personal insight into the magic world of travel and adventure, with real stories, beautiful photos, travel tips and advice.
“To awaken quite alone in a strange town is one of the most pleasant sensations in the world. You are surrounded by adventure. You have no idea what is in store for you…” – Freya Stark, 1929
My first explorations and searches for adventure started in the beautiful Carpathians Mountains and Danube Delta, in my native country, Romania. But I was always attracted by far away and exotic lands.
The first real trip was on 1983 to Africa – Libya and Tunisia, followed by Western Europe.
In 1997 I changed continents and I moved to Toronto, Canada – one very exciting and big step.
But the real thrills and amazement started once I discovered Asia, in 2003 with trips to Hong Kong, China and Thailand, followed by Japan.
My biggest journey was traveling for four months in Asia (Nepal, Tibet, India, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia) and West Africa (The Gambia, Senegal) in 2010/2011.
A couple of years later I was back in Thailand, exploring the country’s beautiful islands and visiting Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore.
More trips followed to USA, Western Canada, Portugal, France, Switzerland, Cuba, Ethiopia, and more – making a total of 36 countries visited.
This blog is intended to keep an online journal of my travels and to help and inspire others with planning, tips and information from the countries I visit.

An adventurer and trouble maker from younger age, Xue moved from Harbin, China, to Toronto, Canada.
After travelling extensively to China, Mongolia, Taiwan and Japan for almost one year, Xue returned to Toronto at the end of 2015. Soon she embarked in a one year long journey to Japan, in the end spending 850 days travelling through 20 countries.
Back and forth between Asia and Canada, Xue found refuge from COVID-19 in her home, in Toronto, longing for better times to travel again to Asia and to what she loves the most: the mountains and the sea.
