No trip to Vietnam is complete without a visit to Halong Bay – UNESCO World Heritage Site.
I think you can measure the level of excitement by the number of photos you take. And in the two days Halong Bay cruise I took a lot of photos.
2,000 limestone islands rise like towers from the emerald waters of the Gulf of Tonkin and the views are stunning. Old wooden ships called “junk boats” (that look more like pirate ships!) are sailing between these incredible karsts formations, passing by beautiful caves and grottoes that are waiting to be explored, slowly moving fisherman boats and sleepy floating villages.

- Take a junk boat tour and relax.
- Visit the “Cave of Surprises” – the biggest cave in Halong Bay, with huge “chambers” and surprising natural sculptures made from stalactites and stalagmites.
- Buy snacks and drinks form the raw boat vendors if you are out of provisions.
