The Wonders of Angkor Wat

Memories of the Past

In a previous life, perhaps I was living in Asia since the connection to this continent is so strong.

After the “shock of arrival” to Asia via Hong Kong in 2003, I started exploring this amazing land – starting with China and ending in Thailand: Macau, Japan, Nepal, Tibet, India, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan.

Each country brings memories of adventure and discovery, friendship and love.

In Cambodia is Angkor Wat – truly impressive, a masterpiece from the past.

“Life is about the adventures you take and the memories you make. So travel often and live life with open eyes and an open heart.” – Katie Grissom

Angkor Wat is the largest religious structure in the world. It took me two full days to visit the nearby temples by bicycle, plus one day with tuk-tuk to the beautiful Banteai Srei.

The temples replicate the spatial universe in miniature. The one I like the most, the Bayon, has 54 Gothic towers decorated with 216 enormous faces.

Parts of the old ruins are “hugged” by big tree roots that give the unique charm to the Angkor temples.

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Angkor Wat temples through the power of images and inspirational travel quotes.

“Angkor Wat is of such extraordinary construction that it is not possible to describe it with a pen, particularly since it is like no other building in the world. It has towers and decoration and all the refinements which the human genius can conceive of.” – António da Madalena, 1586
