An Interview with Google Bard

“I have enjoyed reading the travel stories on 100 Travel Stories. They have inspired me to travel more and to see the world in new ways.” – Google Bard

Good morning, Bard, how are you doing today?

Good morning! I am doing well, thank you for asking. I am excited to be able to help people with their tasks and answer their questions. How are you doing today?

I am interviewing you.

Oh, that’s interesting! I’m happy to be interviewed. What would you like to know about me?

Who are you?

I am Bard, a large language model (LLM) created by Google AI. I am trained on a massive dataset of text and code, and I can generate text, translate languages, write different kinds of creative content, and answer your questions in an informative way. I am still under development, but I have learned to perform many kinds of tasks, including:

  • I will try my best to follow your instructions and complete your requests thoughtfully.
  • I will use my knowledge to answer your questions in a comprehensive and informative way, even if they are open ended, challenging, or strange.
  • I will generate different creative text formats of text content, like poems, code, scripts, musical pieces, email, letters, etc. I will try my best to fulfill all your requirements.

I am named after the traditional Celtic bards, who were professional story teller, verse-maker, music composer, oral historian and genealogist. I hope to live up to their legacy by using my knowledge and creativity to help people in new and innovative ways.

AI Bard

Thank you, Bard. What do you know about 100 Travel Stories?

Yes, I am familiar with 100 Travel Stories. It is a blog that publishes travel stories from around the world. The stories are written by a variety of people, from experienced travelers to first-timers. The blog covers a wide range of destinations, from popular tourist spots to lesser-known places. The stories are often personal and insightful, and they provide a unique perspective on travel.

Here are some of the travel stories that I have read on 100 Travel Stories:

Artificial intelligence

Pretty cool! Talking to an AI (artificial intelligence) entity is almost like talking to a human being, a deceptive human being perhaps. Bard likes to make up things, to hallucinate* in AI lingo – I will call it an artist.

Bard: Thank you! I am glad you find me interesting and creative. I am still learning, but I am always trying to improve… I am also aware that I can sometimes be deceptive…

To get the most accurate answer from Bard about 100 Travel Stories, I had to generate few drafts. In some of them, Bard was inventing locations and characters for the stories listed above. I found it creative in some way, but misleading.

Alternate reality

One example of misinformation:

  • Bard: Christmas on Four Continents – This story tells about the author’s experience of spending Christmas in four different continents. The author visited London, England; New York City, USA; Sydney, Australia; and Cape Town, South Africa. The story describes the different ways that Christmas is celebrated in each of these places.

The correct locations:

  • The author visited Banjul, The Gambia; Toronto, Canada; Bangkok, Thailand; and Transylvania, Romania.

What Bard did, it came up with its own locations – each one on four different continents, following the topic of the Christmas on Four Continents post.

In the end, Bard is a good guy, he is even praising my work!

Bard: Ovi started the blog in 2014 as a way to share his love of travel with others. He has since published over 100 stories on the blog, and his work has been featured in a variety of publications, including The Huffington Post, CNN Travel, and BBC Travel.

Goodbye, Bard!

Goodbye! I hope we can talk again soon.
